September First Saturday: Dog Days of Summer

In Downtown Frederick, we pride ourselves on being as dog-friendly as it gets. On any given day, your four-legged friend can join you for dinner, tag along on your shopping spree, and even grab happy hour with you at Alive @ Five. So on September First Saturday, we celebrate these furry members of our community. Check out the line-up of dog-friendly activities that you and your pup can look forward to on Saturday, and don't forget to pre-register before you come downtown!

3:00 – 4:30pm: Registration @ Paws in the City, 112 E Patrick Street
Click here to pre-register your pup! Registration includes a special doggie bag for you and your pet. Plus, a portion of proceeds from the day benefit the Frederick County Humane Society!

3:00 – 6:00pm: Judging at Stations Throughout Downtown
Stop by the four judging stations downtown to be considered for one of the day's three top prizes! Judges will name the "Hottest Dog" (small  breed) and "Coolest Dog" (large breed) and human/K-9 duos can enter the "Owner/Dog Look-a-Like" contest. Costumes encouraged!

6:30 – 7:00pm: Dog Parade (line-up begins at 6pm at the Community Bridge)
Strut your puppy stuff at the annual Dog Days of Summer Dog Parade! We'll start lining up at 6pm at the Community Bridge (on S Carroll St near the Delaplaine) and the parade will start promptly at 7pm. Want to catch the parade as a spectator? The parade route goes along the northern side of the Creek from S Carroll to S Market St, and then back up the other side (towards the amphitheater) from S Market St to Carroll Creek Amphitheater.

4:00 – 8:00pm, Flying Dog Yappy Hour Beer Garden at Carroll Creek Amphitheater
Cheers! A beer garden for the dogs (and their humans). All ages are welcome.

7:15pm, Winners announced at Carroll Creek Amphitheater
Find out who the judges will name the 2016 Hottest Dog, Coolest Dog, and best Owner/Dog Look-a-Like.

Also don't miss: a dog-friendly photobooth at Federated Charities (22 S Market St, 1-3pm), dog origami at Dancing Bear (15 E Patrick St, 3-9pm), and an opportunity to have your pet blessed in the gardens at Evangelical Lutheran Church (31 E Church St, 3-5pm). Stay tuned- a full brochure of activities and attractions will be available here soon!

In addition to these events, enjoy dog-friendly dining and shopping all over downtown, plus activities planned especially for you and your pup. As always, First Saturday features live music and late shopping hours

Thank you to CARE Veterinary, Flying Dog and Paws in the City for making this event possible!
