Last-Minute Downtown Dash

Finish your holiday shopping in Downtown Frederick during this Saturday’s Last-Minute Downtown Dash! Enjoy festive decorations and holiday cheer as you visit one of the 75+ businesses that plan to be open on Christmas Eve, December 24. With 45 businesses open from at least 10am until 3pm, you’re sure to find something for everyone on your list!

Downtown Frederick Gift Cards also make the perfect gift, redeemable at over 150 Downtown businesses. Gift Cards can be purchased at the Frederick Visitor Center (151 S East St), which will be open from 9am until 5:30pm on Saturday, December 24.

Keep in mind that parking is free this holiday season. Available every weekend from 8am Saturday until 6am Monday, now until New Year’s Day, as well as on Friday, December 23.

Eat, Shop and Be Merry in Downtown Frederick this Holiday Season

Head Downtown this weekend to participate in the family-friendly Reindeer Run Holiday Scavenger Hunt, happening throughout Downtown Frederick! The evening is part of the Partnership’s Eat, Shop & Be Merry First Saturday events, featuring extended shopping hours until 9pm, live music and entertainment throughout Downtown, make your own s’mores stations, and holiday decorations for everyone to enjoy.

The Reindeer Run is a self-guided, self-paced scavenger hunt that will take you on different stops throughout Downtown. You can start as early as 3PM and finish as late as 9PM. Once you've completed all of your clues, drop off your completed sheet at the Downtown Frederick Partnership kiosk, located at the intersection of Church and Market Streets.

Scavenger hunt clues will be available by December 17. Download a clue sheet from downtownfrederick.org or pick one up from the Partnership kiosk any time after 3PM on December 17.

While you’re here, remember to help children write a Letter to Santa and drop it off at one of the designated mailboxes throughout Downtown (drop-off locations include Century 21 Redwood, Crisafulli’s Cheese Shop, Dancing Bear Toys, Ec’clectibles, Evangelical Lutheran Church, Lebherz Oil & Vinegar Emporium and Quality Shoe Service). Be sure to drop your letters off by December 17 (with your name and address included) to receive a response from Santa himself!

Have you voted in the Holiday Decorating Contest yet? Enjoy the festive lights and décor throughout Downtown, then head to the Partnership’s “Holiday Decorating Contest” Facebook album and give your favorite decorations a “Like.” The photo with the most Likes by December 21 will win our coveted People’s Choice award.

Keep in mind that parking is free this holiday season. Available every weekend from 8am Saturday until 6am Monday, now until New Year’s Day, as well as on Friday, December 23.

Eat, Shop & Be Merry in Downtown Frederick is continuing for the rest of the month! There is still a Last-Minute Downtown Dash on Saturday, December 24 for any last minute gifts you might need. More than seventy Downtown businesses will be open on December 24, with many open from at least 10AM until 3PM. Individual store hours may vary. Things to do This Weekend 11/18 and Kick off the Holiday Season!

The holidays are right around the corner with Thanksgiving less than a week away, Downtown Frederick is the place to get everything you need right in one place!

Start off your weekend by heading to the Weinberg Center for the Arts to hear your favorite top forty hits through the electrifying string trio, Simply Three. From the classics to today’s hits, be sure to head over at 8 pm for a night of fun and entertainment.

Saturday afternoon head to VINI CULTURE Wine Bar and Café for “Getting to Know You Again.” For $5 Kelly Carbary will be pouring wines that you have always loved but might have forgotten about from 2 pm to 4 pm.

On Sunday, get some local groceries to make your Thanksgiving a little bit fresher at the Frederick City Farmer’s Market! This is the last Sunday of the year to find some local food and artisan goods right in Downtown Frederick. It is open from 9 am to 1 pm.

Get ready to be in the holiday spirit by checking out the Weinberg Center for the Arts to see “Away in the Basement: A Church Basement Ladies Christmas” at 2 pm! Head back in time to 1959 where four church basement ladies are called to save the Sunday school Christmas pageant from disaster.

Don’t want to cook Thanksgiving dinner? Brewer’s Alley Restaurant and Brewery will serve you a three-course dinner and buffet for $29 a person from 11 am to 4 pm.

Ready to shop until you drop? First, be sure to get some breakfast at Brewer’s Alley for their Frosty Friday kick-off meal from 8 am to 10:30 am.

Once your belly is full, it’s time to shop at the annual Frost Friday event! All throughout downtown you will find early late shopping hours, horse-drawn carriage rides, free hot cocoa and s’mores, live music and carolers, and so much more! Things to do This Weekend 11/11

Already bored of the weekend? Check out these events throughout Downtown Frederick to find some fun plans for your weekend! 

In honor of Veteran’s Day, join the Weinberg Center for the Arts at 7:30 PM for the United States Air Force Concert Band! The free performance features their premier symphonic wind ensemble by 53 active duty Airmen musicians. The music will range from light classics to popular favorites and instrumental features.

Continue a music filled evening at VINI CULUTRE Wine Bar & Café for the Trent Renshaw Trio. This jazz group will perform classics and originals. Be sure to stop by from 8 PM – 11 PM to enjoy some jazz music! 

On Saturday afternoon at 2:30 PM join the National Museum of Civil War Medicine to learn the secret history of Frederick’s Civil War. Local historian Matt Borders will discuss the history in the talk: Spies in Frederick County

For some mostly instrumental music head to Café Nola at 8 PM to hear Time Columns. The band features an unpredictable medley of music ranging from postrock to jazz to create hard hitting and honest music. 

Looking for some comedy this weekend? The Upright Citizens Brigade Touring Company will be stopping by the Weinberg on Saturday at 8 PM. The improv troupe founded by Amy Poehler, Matt Besser, Ian Roberts, and Matt Walsh has seen some of the biggest comedy stars. Be sure to see them before their famous for some on-the-spot humor guaranteed to have you rolling in the aisles. 

Finish off your weekend with some arts and crafts! Join The Muse at 3 PM for a craft party to make vintage boho macrame wall hangings. Learn how to use simple macrame techniques with Rebekah Miller using a tree branch, cotton cord and beads to make the stylish wall hangings!

From 3:30 PM – 5 PM check out the MET for mimosas, tea, and nibbles while seeing “A Cabaret Today!” These fun performances support The Frank Greene Fund for MET’s original works.

Things to do This Weekend 11/4

Afraid of missing something fun this weekend? Check out these events in Downtown Frederick for some weekend fun!

On Friday VINI CULTURE Wine Bar & Café celebrates the new month with the VINI CULTURE November Playlist. They will be featuring acoustic and folk artist Chloe Antulov from 8 PM – 11 PM.

If folk isn’t your style, check out the Weinberg Center for the Arts for the rock stylings of Jim Messina. Starting at 8 PM you can hear a variety of his music from throughout his career with favorite hits to new gems!

It’s a new month, so that means First Saturday is here! This month join us from 3 PM – 9PM for the Holiday Open House. Kick off your holiday season by getting a jump start on your shopping, checking out the window displays, and riding in a free horse-drawn carriage throughout the historic district!

Saturday night be sure to check out the Sky Stage! The newly opened outdoor theater will be hosting The Loose Ends, Luscious Purr and Cyrenic. Be sure to head over from 7 PM – 10 PM to hear a variety of music!

Finally, finish off your weekend on Sunday by stopping by the Frederick City Farmer’s Market. Only a few weeks left to enjoy the freshness of the market right in downtown! Get some grocery shopping done for the week while supporting local business from 9 AM – 1 PM.

Vote Frederick for Levitt AMP Concert Series!

Frederick is a two year receiver of the Levitt AMP grant, and is trying to go for a third year! Voting starts tomorrow, so be sure to vote for Frederick!


This matching-grant is through the Mortimer & Mimi Levitt Foundation, a foundation dedicated to strengthening the social fabric of America through free live music. Each year the foundation gives 15 grants to different small towns and cities throughout the country, each receiving a matching $25 thousand for a minimum of 10 free outdoor concerts over 10-12 weeks.





Throughout the two years that Frederick has received the grant, the free concerts have promoted the goals of AMP: to amplify community pride and the unique character of the city, enrich lives through free and live music, and illustrate the importance of vibrant public places.





Anyone can vote online starting in November running until November 21, you can sign up to vote on the website. The top 25 proposals will be reviewed by the Levitt Foundation who will select and name the winners on January 5, 2017!



This event has previously featured artists such as Logan Brill, Railsplitters, Christiana Drapkin, and Stitch Early.

Things to do This Weekend 10/28

Looking for something different to do this weekend? Check out these places and events in Downtown Frederick!

On Friday, check out classical guitarist Alex Barnett at VINI CULTURE Wine Bar & Cafe. From 8 pm – 11 pm be sure to stop by to hear a range of music styles including classical and jazz.

Saturday features fun for the kids with Halloween in Downtown Frederick. A number of downtown shops and restaurants will hand out candy to trick-or-treaters from 10 am – 12 pm. Costumes are encouraged!

From 2 pm – 4 pm stop by VINI CULTURE Wine Bar & Café for a Halloween Red Wine Tasting. For $5 enjoy some of their “BOO-tique” red wines to celebrate Halloween!

Stop by the Sky Stage on Saturday night for the Christian rap stylings of Stitch Early and Guests from 7 pm – 10 pm.

Finish off your weekend by getting some groceries for the week at the Frederick City Farmer’s Market! From 9 am – 1pm check out some local food and artisan goods in the historic district of downtown.

Things to do This Weekend 10/21

Need to make plans for the weekend? Check out these events going on in Downtown Frederick!

Join us on Friday for Movie Night on Carroll Creek! This Halloween double feature we will be showing “Hocus Pocus” and “Beetlejuice” to get you in the spirit of the holiday! Doors open at 6 pm at the Carroll Creek Amphitheater, the movie starts at 7 pm. Be sure to bring blankets and lawn chairs for the free movies!

Check out Baker Park on Friday for some Halloween fun! From 6:45 pm – 9 pm, the City of Frederick Parks and Recreation Department presents a haunted Baker Park. Featuring a free show by Dance Unlimited Repertory Company and “Trunk or Treat” while be guided throughout the haunted park, be sure to pre-register in order to enjoy the festivities!

On Saturday, Luna, Retro/Rico Ricole and Guests will be performing at the Sky Stage. Enjoy hip hop music from 7 pm – 10 pm.

If hip hop isn’t your taste, check out VINI CULUTRE Wine Bar & Café for the guitar and vocal stylings of Mack and Mike. On Saturday from 8 pm – 11 pm, Mack and Mike will be performing.

On Sunday, the Frederick Arts Council and the Equinox Dance Company will be hosting the biggest fall dance event in Frederick, Steps to the Sky Dance Festival! The Sky Stage will be hosting a variety of local studios, companies, and teachers to bring the dance community of Frederick together from 2 pm – 4 pm.

From 4 pm – 5pm be sure to stop by the Curious Iguana for Sunday Shorts with Paula Whyman. Meet her and learn about her collection of short stories at the three-part discussion series that began in September and will continue into next month.

Finding Fall Foliage throughout Frederick

Fall is upon us and the leaves are starting to change. Downtown Frederick is filled with walking paths, parks, and tree lined streets where you can get a glimpse of fall. To see some trees change color, check out these great places!

In addition to the beautiful fountains and bridges along the creek, you can currently find some beautiful changing leaves.

All along Carroll Creek you can find some pretty amazing trees. At Mullinix Park, the leaves have started to fall, making it quite the autumnal site.

Things to do This Weekend 10/14

Need something to do this weekend? Check out these fun events going on in Downtown Frederick!

On Friday, stop by VINI CULTURE Wine Bar & Café for the Monocacy Jazz Trio. From 6:30 pm – 9:30 pm enjoy the Frederick-based jazz band

The Weinberg will be featuring Sweet Plantain, a new-age string quartet on Friday. This group fuses western classically traditions with hip-hop, jazz, and Latin rhythms. The show starts at 8 pm and tickets start at $20.

On Saturday, check out VINI CULTURE Wine Bar & Café to enjoy a Singles Wine Tasting. For $5 from 3:00 pm – 5:00 pm meet local singles while trying wine.

From 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm visit the new Sky Stage to see FAME. The Frederick Acoustic Music Enterprise, or FAME, promotes acoustic music of all genres in Frederick. This performance will feature Carly Harvey and Sol Roots, and Saskia and the Truly Unruly Blues Band for a $10 admission fee.

Sunday has some fun for the whole family to enjoy. The Odd Squad is visiting the Weinberg Center for the Arts from 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm. The interactive show based on the PBS Kids series allows the audience to help Ms. O solve the oddness in Frederick with agents Owen and Ophelia.

For the crafter in you, check out The Muse to make a gelli plate print collage. From 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm enjoy a class with Margaret Hluch through experimentation with gelli plates and acrylic paints. Stop by The Muse to register and see project samples, or call to register 301-663-3632.

Things to do This Weekend- 9/22

No plans for the weekend? Here are some events going on in Downtown Frederick that might spark your interest!

Start your weekend off with the last Alive @ Five on Thursday featuring Black Masala. From 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm enjoy the high energy brass band that will have the crowd dancing. This 21 and older event is $5 which benefits Downtown Frederick Partnership, which is dedicated to enhancing, promoting and preserving the vitality and economic viability of Downtown Frederick. 

On Friday, join the Weinberg Center for the Arts for “The Midtown Men” at 8:00 pm. This will feature four stars from the original Broadway cast of Jersey Boys as well as music from The Beatles, The Four Seasons, Motown, and more. 

For $5 join Vini Culture on Saturday for an in-house fall wine tasting. From 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm stop by to try seasonal wines. 

On Saturday, Paula Poundstone will be taking the microphone at the Weinberg Center for the Arts. At 8:00 join the NPR panelist from “Wait, Wait… Don’t Tell Me,” for her Emmy-Award winning comedy stylings. 

Be sure to stop by the Frederick City Farmer’s Market this Sunday for any local food or artisan goods you might need of the week. Located at 331 N Market St, and open from 9:00 am – 1:00 pm to find treats, fresh fruits and vegetables, flowers, and a variety of other goods.  

Need a haircut? Sam Wong Salon and Artisinal Hair Co. are joining forces to “Trim Hunger” on Sunday from 1:00 pm – 5:00 pm. Donations start at $25, all funds raised will go directly to Blessings in a Backpack. The first come, first served, walk-ins only fundraiser will also feature a performances from The Dirty Middle, and DJ Two Teks.

Looking for something fun to do this weekend? We've got you covered.

Start your weekend on Thursday with the Donegal X-Press at Alive @ Five at the Carroll Creek Amphitheater. The premiere Irish-American roots rock group has cultivated fans throughout the world. This 21 and older event requires a $5 cover fee (but get this- proceeds benefit Downtown Frederick Partnership, Frederick's designated Main Street organization).

On Friday, celebrate women in music and arts and the release of the brand-new issue of Sass Magazine at Goddess Jam at 200 East Art Haus from 6pm- 11pm. Pre-sale tickets are $25. Check out live performances by CassiRaye, The Dirty Middle, Cheshi, and Joy on Fire.  

Want to kick back and relax after your week? Check out pianist Natalie Ahearn at Vini Culture Wine Bar from 8pm-11pm.

Downtown Frederick is full of culinary delights. Join Taste Frederick on a three-hour walking tour that gives you the full Frederick foodie experience. In addition to experiencing the flavors of Frederick, learn more about the history, architecture, and culture of the city. The tour runs from 11am-2pm and start at Market and 2nd Street, be sure to purchase your tickets before 10am!

Longtime Frederick tradition In The Street is on Saturday. The day starts with the Market Street Mile and wraps up at night with the always-awesome Up The Creek party. And there's so much in between! Food, vendors, art, history and more! Plus, you'll find entertainment on five different stages, featuring 19 bands from Carroll Creek to 7th Street. September First Saturday: Dog Days of Summer

In Downtown Frederick, we pride ourselves on being as dog-friendly as it gets. On any given day, your four-legged friend can join you for dinner, tag along on your shopping spree, and even grab happy hour with you at Alive @ Five. So on September First Saturday, we celebrate these furry members of our community. Check out the line-up of dog-friendly activities that you and your pup can look forward to on Saturday, and don't forget to pre-register before you come downtown!


3:00 – 4:30pm: Registration @ Paws in the City, 112 E Patrick Street
Click here to pre-register your pup! Registration includes a special doggie bag for you and your pet. Plus, a portion of proceeds from the day benefit the Frederick County Humane Society!

3:00 – 6:00pm: Judging at Stations Throughout Downtown
Stop by the four judging stations downtown to be considered for one of the day's three top prizes! Judges will name the "Hottest Dog" (small  breed) and "Coolest Dog" (large breed) and human/K-9 duos can enter the "Owner/Dog Look-a-Like" contest. Costumes encouraged!

6:30 – 7:00pm: Dog Parade (line-up begins at 6pm at the Community Bridge)
Strut your puppy stuff at the annual Dog Days of Summer Dog Parade! We'll start lining up at 6pm at the Community Bridge (on S Carroll St near the Delaplaine) and the parade will start promptly at 7pm. Want to catch the parade as a spectator? The parade route goes along the northern side of the Creek from S Carroll to S Market St, and then back up the other side (towards the amphitheater) from S Market St to Carroll Creek Amphitheater. 

4:00 – 8:00pm, Flying Dog Yappy Hour Beer Garden at Carroll Creek Amphitheater
Cheers! A beer garden for the dogs (and their humans). All ages are welcome.

7:15pm, Winners announced at Carroll Creek Amphitheater 
Find out who the judges will name the 2016 Hottest Dog, Coolest Dog, and best Owner/Dog Look-a-Like.

Also don't miss: a dog-friendly photobooth at Federated Charities (22 S Market St, 1-3pm), dog origami at Dancing Bear (15 E Patrick St, 3-9pm), and an opportunity to have your pet blessed in the gardens at Evangelical Lutheran Church (31 E Church St, 3-5pm). Downtown Frederick Farmer's Markets
Tuesday's Carroll Creek Farmer's Market came to a close last week, but there are still plenty of opportunities to pick up farm-fresh goods downtown. Check out the Everedy Square & Shab Row Farmer's Market on Thursdays (3-6pm in the parking lot next to Frederick Fudge & Ice Cream) and the Frederick City Market on Sundays (9am-1pm in the Carmack Jays lot).

Thursday- Free Yoga on the Creek
Join Sol Yoga at the amphitheater for a free morning yoga practice at 7am. The hour-long class is open to all skill-levels. Bring your own mat!

We're ringing in September with Alive @ Five featuring the 8 Ohms Band. Come check out this horn-heavy-funk group and of course, get your happy hour on, too!

Saturday- Dog Days of Summer
September First Saturday is one for the dogs. Come celebrate the Dog Days of Summer in dog-friendly Downtown Frederick! Bring your four-legged friends downtown for dog-friendly dining, the Yappy Hour Flying Dog Beer Garden and more. Get all dressed up for the chance to win great prizes! This year's judging categories are: Dog/Owner Look-a-Likes, Hottest Dog (Small Breeds) and Coolest Dog (Large Breeds).

September First Saturday is presented by CARE Veterinary Center, Flying Dog and Paws in the City. A portion of the registration proceeds will benefit the Frederick County Humane Society.

Labor Day Weekend
Is Downtown Frederick part of your Labor Day weekend itinerary? Stay tuned for a list of special labor business hours and happenings. Bonus: parking on the street and in the parking garages is free on Labor Day (Monday, September 5).

This Week- August 22

School is back in session but we promise to keep the summer vibes coming. Check out what Downtown Frederick Partnership has coming at you this week!

Tuesday- Levitt AMP Frederick Music Series
Ladies and gentlemen, this is your LAST opportunity to catch a concert in this year's incredible series. This week, we're honored to welcome Frederick's own Scott Ambush and Funkelociraptor (7pm).  Scott is a five-time Grammy nominated bassist and has toured over seventy countries with Spyro Gyra-- and he will knock your socks off! 

Opening the show at 5:30pm is Jack Funk.

Once again, we cannot thank all of our supporters for making this series possible. Things to Do This Weekend- 8/19

Weekend, we meet again! We've rounded up just a few highlights to inspire your Downtown Frederick weekend. 

Frederick Folk Fest kicked off on Thursday night, but there's plenty more to enjoy throughout this pop-up concert series. Catch the Get Right Band on Friday, the Woodshedders and Kate Powderly and The Unconditional Lovers on Saturday, and Laura Mae Socks on Sunday-- all at the Blue Side. 

August's Movie Night on the Creek presents "Raiders of the Lost Arc" on Friday. Whether you're an Indiana Jones fan or simply want to enjoy a flick under the stars, all ages are welcome to enjoy this free event at Carroll Creek amphitheater. Beer, wine, popcorn, candy, soda and ice cream sandwiches will be available for purchase (cash + cards accepted). Gates open at 8pm; movie starts at 9pm.

The lilies and lotus plants are in full bloom! Ever wonder who's responsible for those stunning water plants in the Creek? Color on the Creek is a non-profit organization made up entirely of volunteers and Saturday is your chance to celebrate and support them. Music, beer, BBQ and more at Carroll Creek amphitheater from 3-10pm. Learn more and grab your tickets here.

Everedy Square & Shab Row is celebrating Third Saturday with three hours of live music and entertainment on Saturday night. This month's celebration brings you Da'Mood, a collective of musicians whose combined force creates a hybrid sound of spacious experimentation that makes them a hometown legacy. Intermission entertainment brought to you by the Comedy Pigs. Bring a blanket and hang out from 5-8pm on the grassy hillside behind Shab Row.

On Sunday, Maryland Ensemble Theatre will wrap your weekend up with the Last Hurrah. Join Kevin Cole in his weekly comedy show presented by MET-X as he welcomes a panel of comedy writers, actors and special guests to discuss the events of the past week, life and whatever else comes to mind. 7pm, free admission.

Celebrate Frederick continues their Summer Concert Series on Sunday at 7pm with Unity, the reggae band formerly known as Natty Skank. Take in the unique yet true-to-roots reggae sounds of Unity as the sun starts to go down in Baker Park.

This Week: August 15

We can't do much about this heatwave, but we can make being in it a little more enjoyable. Check out the great things coming up in Downtown Frederick this week.

Tuesday- Levitt AMP Frederick Music Series
Hard to believe as it may be, this is the second-to-last week to catch a Levitt AMP Frederick Music Series concert. We are thrilled to welcome Bob Margolin (7pm), an esteemed Chicago-style blues musician and former Muddy Waters guitarist. Opening for Margolin at 5:30pm is Brave Like Us, a DC-based indie rock duo.

Also, don't miss the Carroll Creek Farmers' Market. From 4:30-7:30pm, stock up on produce for the week or grab a snack to enjoy during the concert.

Sticktime is true classic rock that you can dance to, sing to and just rock out to. With high energy, the band prides itself on getting it right and making it fun. Sticktime was formed in 2002, by four dedicated and talented musicians with a common goal: to create a classic rock cover band that was truly memorable. Covering the 60's, 70's, 80's, 90's and even 2000's with bands like 3 Doors Down, Rush, Pink Floyd, Beatles, Tom Petty and more, you are sure to have a great time!
